How to Replace the Gas Filter in a 2002 Ford Escape
- 1). Climb under the Escape between the front and rear driver's side wheels with the drop pan and fuel line disconnect tool. Center the drop pan underneath the fuel filter. You can locate the fuel filter by following the fuel lines forward from the gas tank until you encounter the filter along the left frame rail.
- 2). Lift the fuel line retaining clips from the Escape's fuel line connectors on both the inlet and outlet fuel lines using the fuel line disconnect tool. Pull the inlet and outlet lines off the gas filter by hand.
- 3). Push the Escape's old gas filter out of the filter mount manually. Set the old filter in the drop pan. Slide the new filter, flow arrow pointing forward, into the filter mount by hand.
- 4). Slide the inlet and outlet fuel lines onto the Escape's new gas filter by hand. Push the fuel line retaining clips back into position with your thumb.
- 5). Turn the ignition switch to the run position. Count to 10 and then turn it off. Turn it to the run position once again for 10 more seconds and then start the Escape.
