How to Do Voice-Overs on Your Computer
- 1). Write a script. Watch the video while writing comments on scrap paper. Write the times, taken from the timeline, beside these comments. For example, "Watch as Uncle Jim tries to carve a turkey with an electric carving knife (12:00:23-13:30:45)."
- 2). Open Windows Movie Maker through the "All Programs" link in your start menu. In Movie Maker, import video, using the link to the left of the work area. Choose the video you want from its location on your computer and click "OK."
- 3). Drag the video clips you want to voice-over down to the time-line, where you will see them appear and where you will be doing a lot of your editing, if needed.
- 4). Click on "Tools" at the top of the Windows Movie Maker window. From the resulting drop-down, you will want to choose "Narrate Timeline." This will open the narration screen.
- 5). Plug the microphone into your computer and click "Start Narration." Read from your prepared script. When you're finished narrating, click "Stop Narration;" a window will open with a save prompt. You can either save the take, if you like it, or click cancel and rerecord. Once you are happy with your recording, save it with an easy-to-remember name so you can find it later.
- 6). Exit the narration screen and play back the video in the main window. Click "play" under the movie screen to the right, and you will hear your narration while the video is playing.
