What Color Nail Polish Should I Wear?

    Occasions and Color

    • The color of nail polish you choose depends on where you'll be wearing it. Is it for the workplace, a special occasion or just for everyday wear? If you're going on a date with your boyfriend, you can be flashy if you want. You will want to be less flashy for a job interview.

If you're wearing nail polish to work, forget about matching it to your outfit. You won't want to change it every day. Choose neutral colors or nude-tones for everyday wear. You'll want clean, manicured nails when you have an interview, go clear. Another option may be a traditional French manicure which calls for white, pale pink and clear. For a twist, you can experiment with peach or apricot instead of pink.

If you're going to a party, prom or cocktail hour, choose something fun. This is the time for the special polishes, the golds, the silvers and the bronzes that match your jewelry.

    Skin Tone and Nail Color

    • Lighter shades with pink undertones go well with fair skin. Blue undertones can also go with fair skin. Lighter skin tones look best in berry red in the daytime and more dramatic shades in the evening. If you have olive or dark skin, golds and russets will play up your skin. Darker skin tones can get by with deep, rich vibrant colors including vibrant purples and reds.

    Accessories and Polish Color

    • You might consider developing a collection of nail polish colors. You should consider nail polish that matches your lipstick. The same advice goes for your wardrobe. If you wear gold and brown clothing, you'll want matching nail polish. If purple and pink don't coordinate with your clothes, don't wear them. You want to be consistent. Keep your dominant shades of clothing in mind when you buy nail polish.
