- 3). Write down the codes with the pen and paper when they display on the scan tool’s screen. Complete the self test per the scan tool’s specific instructions, making sure not to erase the codes unless you have already diagnosed and repaired the malfunction.
- 4). Turn off the ignition key, disconnect the scan tool and put the cover back onto the diagnostic port.
