How to Replace a Brake Light on a Toyota 2000 Tacoma

    • 1). Remove the four mounting screws from the taillight assembly using a Phillips screwdriver. There are two screws on top of the assembly and two screws on the bottom. Place the screws in a safe place.

    • 2). Pull the taillight assembly cover straight off. Locate the brake light bulb. In the 2000 Tacoma, there are three bulbs inside the taillight assembly. The bulb on the bottom is the brake light.

    • 3). Turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the taillight assembly. Insert the new bulb and turn it clockwise until it is secure.

    • 4). Replace the cover over the taillight assembly and secure it with the four mounting screws. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5). Repeat the process on the opposite side, if necessary. Test the brake lights to be sure they are functioning properly.
