Volvo S40 HID Headlamps Installation
- 1). Turn off the engine and open the hood. Remove the headlight holding pin from each headlamp assembly.
- 2). Pull each headlight out and disconnect the power connection by pushing down on the tab and pulling straight out. Remove the headlights from the vehicle.
- 3). Remove the back cover from the headlight assemblies by releasing the two metal retainers securing the cover.
- 4). Drill a hole in the back of each cover with the drill and the 1-inch drill bit. Position the hole so that it is in the center of the covers.
- 1). Run the wires from the light bulb harness in through the hole in the cover. Set the rubber plug with wires into the cover and remove the halogen bulb by rotating it counterclockwise and pulling it straight out. Disconnect the bulb from the power connection and connect the power connection to the HID bulb. Place the HID bulb in the headlight assembly. Do not touch the glass portion of the new bulb.
- 2). Wrap electrical tape around the bottom half of the power wires on the bulb harness. Place the power wires into the bulb connector. Connect the red wire to the yellow one and the black wire to the brown one.
- 3). Wrap the bulb connector with electrical tape. Place the back cover back onto the headlight assembly.
- 4). Connect the ballast-to-bulb harness to the bulb connector. Connect the first ballast connector into the harness, then connect the remaining two wires to the harness. Attach the two-sided tape onto the ballast.
- 5). Run the ballast and wires through the headlight assembly and reconnect the power to the headlight. Place the headlight assembly back into the vehicle and reattach the retaining pin. Repeat with the other headlight.
