How to Add Power Steering Fluid to a 1999 Beetle

- 1). Shut off the engine, and check the wheels to make sure they are pointing straight.
- 2). Locate the power steering fluid reservoir, which is on the pump body in the engine compartment near the battery.
- 3). Wipe off the reservoir cap and the area around it with a clean rag to keep contaminants from entering the reservoir. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it.
- 4). Remove the fluid from the dipstick on the cap with the rag, stick it back in the reservoir and pull it out again to read the fluid level. Add fluid if the level is below the minimum line.
- 5). Pour VW hydraulic oil into the reservoir, using a funnel to prevent spilling. Add a little at a time and check the level with the dipstick each time. Don't let the fluid go past the maximum level.
