How to Connect an XP PC to a Mac Network
- 1). Click the Apple logo button at the top left corner of the screen on the Mac off of which you would like to share files.
- 2). Click "System Preferences" in the menu that appears, and then click "View."
- 3). Click "Accounts." See all of the users associated with the Mac. Select the user account from which you want to share files, and then click "Edit User."
- 4). Type in the appropriate password, if necessary, and check the "Allow user to log in from Windows" box. Click "Save."
- 5). Click back to the "System Preferences" menu and select "View."
- 6). Click "Sharing" and navigate to the "Services" tab of the window that appears.
- 7). Select "Windows File Sharing" from the checklist on the left of the box, and make sure that the right side says "Windows File Sharing On." This will share the user's "Home" folder in addition to any other shared folders.
- 1). Click the "Start" button on the lower left side of the screen on your Windows XP PC.
- 2). Click "Control Panel" on the right-hand side of the menu that appears.
- 3). Click "Network and Internet Connections." Then, double-click on "My Network Places."
- 4). Double-click "Entire network." Then double-click on the work group of which your Mac is a part.
- 5). Double-click on your Mac's icon in the window that appears in order to browse its files.
