Laptop Boots & Keyboard Doesn't Work
- Restarting the laptop may remedy a keyboard that has stopped working. Before you restart, unplug anything that is connected to the computer other than the power cord. Anything that is connected by the USB could be interfering with the keyboard, and you'll need to remove them to ensure that they are not causing the problem. Since you can't use the keyboard to restart the computer, you will have to press the power button until the computer turns off.
- If you've restarted the computer and the keyboard is still not responding, turn the computer off once more and take the power cord off. Remove the battery and let the computer rest for several minutes without the battery. Removing the battery resets the computer, and may resolve the issue with the keyboard.
- If you have a USB keyboard available, plug it into the USB port and restart the computer. If the USB keyboard works, then you have the ability to attempt further troubleshooting by downloading new drivers for the built-in keyboard, or restoring the computer to a previous point where the keyboard was working.
- If the keyboard is entirely unresponsive, you may need to replace it. The keyboard may have been damaged, and it is possible that it will not work unless you replace it. Contact your computer's manufacturer or a computer repair service to determine where you can take your computer to get the keyboard replaced.
