How to Install Headlights for a Pontiac

    • 1). Lift the hood and secure it with the hood prop.

    • 2). Remove any bolts, screws or fasteners securing the headlight assembly in the car. The Grand Prix has two bolts on the top of the assembly. For the Grand Am, you must first remove the splash shield by unclipping the two fasteners on top of the shield. Then access and pull up on the two retaining clips above the assembly. The G6, for instance, requires removing the entire front fascia, whereas the accessing the bulb in the Solstice and Vibe only involves opening the hood.

    • 3). Pull the headlight assembly out of the car from the front.

    • 4). Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the bulb assembly. The Grand Prix has a plastic tab you must lift to remove the connector. For other models, the connector can be pulled out.

    • 5). Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull it out of the assembly.

    • 6). Remove the old bulb. It can be pulled straight out without turning.

    • 7). Install the new halogen bulb. Push it into the socket until it snaps into place.

    • 8). Reinstall the bulb assembly and the headlight assembly by performing the steps you used to remove them, in reverse.
