How to Remove the HP V5000's Display

    • 1). Turn off your laptop and unplug any cables connected to it. Flip your laptop upside down so that the corner where the monitor and the lower part of the laptop meet is closest to you.

    • 2). Locate the battery in the lower right corner of your laptop. Push the battery latch to the right until the battery dislodges. Lift and remove the battery.

    • 3). Locate the memory/Mini PCI compartment cover just above the battery bay in the lower-middle part of the laptop. Remove the screw on the left side of the compartment cover. Lift and remove the cover.

    • 4). Locate the Mini PCI communications module on the right section of the compartment.

    • 5). Unplug the two cables located from the left side of the Mini PCI communications module.

    • 6). Remove the two screws in the lower-left and lower-right corners of the laptop.

    • 7). Remove the two screws in the lower-left and lower-right corners of the battery bay.

    • 8). Turn your computer over so that when the laptop opens up, the monitor is facing you. Open the laptop up and push the monitor back as far as it can go. Place a pillow underneath the back of the monitor.

    • 9). Wedge a butter knife under the cover that runs across the laptop behind the "F1," "F5," "F11" and "Insert" keys and lift the knife up under the cover until the cover pops free. Lift and remove the cover.

      Remove the keyboard screws located directly behind the "F1," F5," "F11" and "Insert" keys.

      Grab the back row of keys and lift the keyboard at a 45-degree angle and pull it back about two inches and set it down in front of the monitor.

      Locate the ribbon-looking connecting the keyboard to the laptop that is just above the mouse pad. Unplug the connector by grabbing it and pulling it toward the monitor. Lift and remove the keyboard.

      Unplug the display cable that runs from the the lower-left corner of the monitor to the upper-right corner of the laptop.

      Follow the cable that runs from the lower-right part of the monitor toward the middle part of the laptop. Pull the cable out of four clips that hold it in place. This is a wireless cable, so it does not connect anywhere.

      Remove the two screws in the upper-left and upper-right corners of the laptop that connect the monitor to the lower part of the laptop.

      Lift and remove the display assembly from the lower part of the laptop.
