- 1). Place the Zip Disk into the Zip drive and connect the drive to your computer via the USB port.
- 2). Click "Start" and then "My Computer" to display all of the mounted drives on your computer.
- 3). Locate the Zip Drive icon under "Devices with removable storage". Right-click the icon and select "Format".
- 4). Choose a format type. You can choose either short or long format. The short format simply erases all data from the disk as quickly as possible. The long format, on the other hand, repairs the disk if it has any errors and then erases all data. Use the long format if you've forgotten the password to access the disk.
- 5). Click the "Start" button at the bottom of the dialog box and to begin formatting.
