- 1). Shut down your computer. Disconnect the power cable from the nearest electrical outlet, and from the socket on the back of the computer. Then disconnect all other external data, networking and peripheral devices from the computer.
- 2). Rotate the computer so the rear panel is facing you. Touch an unpainted metal surface to discharge static electricity from your body before attempting to open the computer.
- 3). Lay the computer tower horizontally on its right side. Pull on the release latch that secures the left-side panel to the computer's casing. Grasp the top edge of the side panel, tilt it upward, and then remove the panel from the computer to reveal its internal components.
