How to Build a Tower Game

    • 1). Go to freeonlinegames.com and type "Steel Tower" into the search bar near the top of the page. Click on the Steel Tower picture at the top of the search results, let the game load, then click the silver "Play" button in the center of the game screen.

    • 2). View the demo to learn how to play the game or click the X in the upper right corner of the window to close it out and begin the game.

    • 3). Build supports for your tower by clicking on one of the two bolts attached to the top of the two starter beams. Drag the mouse to where you want the next beam to end and release the mouse button. If the line that appears when you drag the mouse is green or blue, the beam will be built, but if the line disappears, you are trying to make the beam too long.

    • 4). Create support for your tower by building in triangular sections rather than squares. Drag the mouse upward from the starting bolt to create a vertical beam, then drag it from the top of the new beam to the lower bolt across the tower to form a triangle.

    • 5). Build your tower as high as you possibly can following the pattern of triangles. As your tower grows taller, it will begin to sway if it is not completely balanced.

    • 6). Make adjustments to balance your tower so it does not fall over. If your tower is leaning to the left, angle the next vertical beam you build slightly to the right.

    • 7). Watch out for weak points in your tower design. If at any point in the game one of the beams begins to glow red, it is a signal that that particular beam is carrying too much weight. Make adjustments to even out the weight or the beam will snap and your tower will fall.

    • 8). Try out different tower designs after you finish your first try to see what else works. Pay attention to the direction your tower is leaning and make the necessary adjustments to balance it out.

    • 9). Take the skills you learned and the designs you tested online into the real world. Using building blocks, build a real tower and try to make it as tall as you possibly can. Use the triangular support method to balance the weight on your tower or try out some of the new designs you came up with while playing the game.

Build a replica of your most successful tower design out of balsa wood. Determine the desired measurements for your tower and cut pieces of balsa wood to size. Using wood glue or craft glue, glue the pieces of wood together in the design you chose from those tested in the online game and in real life with building blocks.

Set your completed tower design on display. Paint your tower or cover it with paper to make it more realistic if you like. Draw or paint designs such as doors and windows onto the paper before gluing it to the tower.
