- 1). Log into your Ubuntu Linux system using your username and password.
- 2). Type "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" without quotation marks and press "Enter" on your keyboard.
- 3). Type your system's root password when prompted, then press "Enter."
- 4). Wait as Ubuntu updates your operating system's configuration information and determines what updates must be installed. This process may take a few minutes.
- 5). Press "Y" on the keyboard when Ubuntu asks you to confirm the software installation.
- 6). Wait as Ubuntu Desktop is installed onto the system. You will be returned to the command line automatically once the process completes.
- 7). Type "gdm" without quotation marks to launch the Gnome Display Manager, which is the default GUI for Ubuntu.
