Camaro Window Motor Removal
- Before disassembling the door, make sure that the window is lowered completely and inside the door. Getting to the motor means getting the upholstered cover and door handles off the inside of the door. Start by looking under the door handle. There will be two very large screws in the front and back. Use a large Philips-head screwdriver to back them both out. Disconnect the wires attached to the door-lock and window-lift controls. Look on the bottom of the door for any screws and remove them. The upholstered panel is now held on by clips. Pull these straight out and lift the panel from where it hangs at the top of the door just below the window. Now the window motor is exposed.
- The motor is mounted to a plate welded to the door. Screws hold the motor in place and wires are connected to power and to the power-window control switches. Disconnect all the wires leading to the motor. The wires are attached with clips and screws. There is no need to break a soldered joint. Before removing the motor you may want to insert a measured piece of wood under the door-lift mechanism. This prevents the window from accidentally falling further into the door. When the screws and wires are disconnected, lift the motor up and out from the door. There are some reinforcing metal crosspieces in the door; it may take some wiggling to get the motor around those supports. Also, depending on the model of Camaro, you may need to remove the drive gear. This is held to the shaft with a set screw. You'll need a screwdriver or Allen wrench to loosen the set screw and remove the gear. You don't need to remove the screw. Just back it off enough so that the gear spins free on the shaft, and then slide it off of the motor drive shaft.
