How to Convert a PDF to EPUB on a Mac to Read on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

    • 1). Connect your Mac to the Internet.

    • 2). Go to a website that offers PDF conversion software. Calibre is one option that works on both Mac and Windows PCs. It can convert from PDF and many other eBook formats to ePub or other eReader-specific formats. The interface is easy to use and the software is free. Alternately, Michael Burns of MacWorld notes that PDF Converter for Mac offers effective text conversion to ePub, but mixed results if your PDF has advanced layout features. This software has a free trial, but the full version requires purchase.

    • 3). Download the software you have chosen and follow the onscreen instructions to install your chosen converter after the download completes.

    • 4). Open your PDF and check it to make sure it looks the way you want it to look. If you have a PDF editor, such as Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro, you can crop off excess margins or make alterations. If you created the PDF in Word or Pages, you can make corrections there, then re-export to PDF. Note that Pages will also export directly to ePub, so no convertor is necessary.

    • 5). Launch your PDF converter and follow the onscreen instructions to load your PDF. This generally involves browsing to your PDF file or dragging and dropping it into the interface, and then entering any data it needs, such as title and author.

    • 6). Select "ePub" as the output file type, and then click "Convert" or the similar option in your software.

    • 7). Wait for the conversion to complete. This may take many minutes, especially for book-length files or PDFs that contain a lot of data.

    • 8). Transfer the file to your iOS device through email or iTunes transfer. Launch your iBooks or other eBook app and open the file. Scan through a few pages to make sure it converted correctly.

    • 9). Try the conversion again if the formatting does not appear correct on your device. If it still does not work, you may need a different converter. Each converter handles different types of files best, so you may need to try more several before getting the results you want.
