How to Connect With the Facebook Login for Joomla

    • 1). Direct your Web browser to the Extensions section of the Joomla.org website. Download a Joomla! extension, such as jConnector or JFBConnect, that lets you connect your Joomla! site to the Facebook Application Programming Interface (API) and allows your site guests to log in using their Facebook credentials. Save the extension ZIP file to a folder on your computer.

    • 2). Navigate to the administrator back-end log-in page of your Joomla! site. Log in with your administrator username and password.

    • 3). Click the "Extensions" link on the menu bar of your Joomla! control panel, then click the "Install/Uninstall" option. On the "Extension Manager" page, click the "Browse" button under the "Upload Package File" header.

    • 4). Navigate to the folder on your computer where you saved the Facebook connector plugin. Click the file name to highlight it, then click the "Open" button in the "File Upload" window. Once the "File Upload" windows closes, click the "Upload File & Install" button on the "Extension Manager" page.

    • 5). Open a new tab or window in your Web browser. Navigate to facebook.com and log in with your username and password. Type "Facebook Developers" in the search box at the top of your profile page. Click the "Facebook Developers Group" link in the drop-down list.

    • 6). Click the "Allow" button when prompted to allow the Facebook Development Center to access your Facebook account information. Click the "+ Set Up New App" button at the top of the page.

    • 7). Type the name of your website in the "App Name" field. Click the "Facebook Terms" link and review the terms and conditions of using Facebook Apps. Click the "Agree" option, then click the "Create App" button.

    • 8). Type the letters and numbers displayed in the "Security Check" box in the text box labeled "Text in the box." Ensure that you enter the characters exactly as they appear in the "Security Check" box before clicking the "Submit" button.

    • 9). Confirm that the name of your website appears in the "Application Name" field of the "Basic Information" section. Enter a description of the App in the Description box. Enter "My Website Login App" or something similar.

    • 10

Click "Change your icon" to upload an image file to display in the app window when users log into your site using the Facebook API. If you want to display your website logo in the app window, click the "Change your logo" link and upload the image for your site logo.

    • 11

Enter the contact email address for the log-in app -- if different than your Facebook username email. Enter the "Privacy" and "Terms of Service" URL address for your website in the corresponding fields. If you do not have "Privacy" or "Terms of Service" pages on your website, you must create them before using the Facebook API.

    • 12

Click the "Save Changes" button. Wait a few seconds for the site to save the information for your new log-in app and to generate three separate codes needed for your app to work with the Facebook API. Those key codes are the API Key, Application Secret Key and Application ID.

    • 13

Return to the tab or window displaying the Joomla! admin control panel. Click "Extensions," then "Module Manager." In the list of installed Joomla extensions, click the name of the Facebook connector module you installed earlier.

    • 14

Click the "Enable" option on the extension configuration page. Type the API Key, Application Secret Key and Application ID codes in the corresponding fields of the extension configuration page. Click the "Save" button at the top of the screen to save the changes to the extension.

Open a new tab or window in your browser. Navigate to the homepage of your Joomla! website. The Facebook log-in form is visible on your site in the module position used for log-ins or registrations.
