How to Put in a Window Motor
- 1). Remove the door panel by prying the window switch bezel out of the door with the trim tool. Unplug the window switch from the power window wiring harness by hand. Depending on your year, make and model, you may need to remove a screw or two in order to get the switch bezel out of the door.
- 2). Remove the screws from the door with either the Phillips screwdriver or socket set, depending on whether Phillips or hex-head screws hold your door panel. Higher-end vehicles may require the removal of trim covers with the trim tool to access all the door panel retaining screws.
- 3). Lift the door panel up and off the door by hand. Older vehicles may require you to pry the panel loose from the door with the trim tool, as small plastic trim pins anchor the panel to the door.
- 4). Lift your vehicle's window to the top of the window channel by hand. Tape it to the top of the door with packing tape.
- 5). Remove the power window wiring harness from the window motor by hand. Remove the power window motor retaining bolts with the socket set. Pull the motor out of the door by hand.
- 6). Insert your vehicle's new window motor into the door by hand. Bolt the new window motor to the vehicle in reverse of how you unbolted the old one. Plug the power window wiring harness into the new motor by hand.
- 7). Reinstall your vehicle's door panel by reversing the manner in which you removed it. Remove all the packing tape from the window and door before using your vehicle's new window motor.
