How to Add Memory to the HP Pavilion DV6000
- 1). Turn the power off to your HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop. Disconnect the power cord and any other cables attached to the laptop. Turn the laptop upside down. Flip the retaining switch that secures the battery. Remove the laptop battery.
- 2). Remove the screws on your DV6000’s memory compartment cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Touch a bare metal area nearby to discharge any static in your body. Lift the cover off the memory compartment.
- 3). Pry the retaining tabs out away from the memory stick. Grab the exposed edge of the memory stick and pull it out of the memory compartment at a 45-degree angle.
- 4). Insert the new memory stick at a 45-degree angle. Press it into place until the retaining tabs lock in place, holding the memory stick flat in the compartment. Replace the memory compartment cover. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 5). Reconnect the power cord and any cables that you had connected to the laptop. Turn the power on to allow the computer to recognize the new memory stick.
