How to Replace the Ignition Switch on My 1990 Mazda B2200
- 1). Disconnect the negative (black) cable from the battery. Remove the five screws that hold the lower steering column cover in place, with a screwdriver.
- 2). Pull the upper and lowers steering column cover halves apart from each other and remove them.
- 3). Examine the rear of the ignition tumbler. The ignition tumbler is where you insert the ignition key. Locate the wiring harness that plugs into the rear of the tumbler.
- 4). Pull the harness from the rear of the tumbler by pressing the locking button and pulling it out.
- 5). Loosen and remove the screw from the rear of the tumbler using a screwdriver. This screw holds the switch inside the tumbler.
- 6). Pull the switch from the rear of the tumbler.
- 7). Press the new switch into the rear of the tumbler.
- 8). Tighten the one screw with a screwdriver.
- 9). Plug the wiring harness into the switch at the rear of the tumbler.

Place the steering column plastic back into place and tighten the five screws. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
