How to Scan a Disk for Errors

    • 1). Click on "My Computer" and right-click the disk you want to scan. Click "Properties," then scroll down to "Tools."

    • 2). Under the "Error Checking" tab, click on "Check Now." Click "Check Disk Options," then click "Scan for and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors." Click "Start" and allow the scan to finish.

    • 3). Download or purchase anti-virus or anti-malware software if the scanning software you have didn't fix the problem.
