Skid plates provide vehicles with an additional layer of underbody protection. The unobtrusive addition is stronger than standard issue plastic dusters. Chevrolet offers an optional skid plate package for trucks and sport utility vehicles, including the Tahoe. Drivers can also purchase third-party aftermarket Tahoe skid plates in different finishes. - Skid plates protect the Tahoe's underbody. Speed bumps, potholes and other objects can cause significant vehicle damage. Without a skid plate, the oil pan, steering and suspension components are exposed. Skid plates are particularly useful on off-road vehicles.
- Tahoe skid plates made by Chevrolet are aluminum. The six-inch plate is compatible with four-wheel-drive Tahoe models. Two-wheel-drive vehicles must install optional off-road equipment.
