Why Java Won't Enable on My System

    Function

    • Java will only work with operating systems specified on their website. These systems include Windows 7, XP, Vista and Server 2008. In addition, Java will generally enable properly with browsers Firefox 2 or above, Internet Explorer 7 or above, and Mozilla and Netscape depending upon the operating system.

    Considerations

    • Java may already be installed on the computer in question, which must be either updated or completely uninstalled before installing the new version. Without first removing all of the old components, the new Java platform will not enable properly.

    Features

    • Java works by providing a single platform that is versatile, and therefore can be used with other platforms with ease. Java also creates applications to open within browsers, increasing the simplicity of networking and Web surfing. The program also provides HTML codes for polls, forums and games, to name a few

    History

    • Java first became available through Sun Microsystems in 1995. Since that time, Java has grown into a multimedia application that services both computer technology and television networking. As of 2010, Java was used by more than 850 million media outlets.
