How to Use Your Font Book on a Mac
- 1). Choose "Go" from your Finder menu, then select "Applications". Locate "Font Book" in the folder, then double-click to open the application.
- 2). Familiarize yourself with the interface. Fonts are sorted by "Collections" on the left pane. Individual fonts and families are sorted in the middle pane. View the actual type face in the preview window on the right.
- 3). Double-click on a font file to view it in the sample character pane on the right. View alternate weights in the same font family by selecting them from the pop-up menu in the preview window.
- 4). Install a font by clicking the "Install Font" button on the bottom right of the preview pane. Alternatively, choose "Add Fonts" from the "File" menu to choose a font that is on your computer. Click "Open" after you have navigated to the folder.
- 5). Remove fonts in the "Collection" column by selecting the name of the font in the middle "Font" column. Choose "File" from the menu, and scroll down to "Remove (Font Name) family". The font files are moved into the Trash.
- 6). Organize your fonts into collections by choosing "New Collection" from the "File" menu. Choose and type a name for your font collection. Select "All Fonts" from the "Collection" column at left. Drag the font name into the name of the collection in the "Collection" column.
- 7). Disable fonts from your computer's applications by clicking "All Fonts" in the "Collection" column, then click the name of the font in the "Font" column. Select "Edit" then "Disable (Font Name)" Family.
