How to Clean Throttle Body Injectors
- 1). Remove the car's air filter.
- 2). Remove the injector wiring harness plugs from injectors. Most vehicles will use snap-on fittings that may be removed either with a small flat-head screwdriver or by squeezing the harness tabs together.
- 3). Remove the fuel rail from the top of the injectors (if so equipped). Most manufacturers secure the fuel rail to the throttle body with one or more hex-head, Allen-head or Torx-head fasteners. Caution: the fuel line may contain some residual pressure.
- 4). Remove the injector retainer plate or rings, if so equipped. Remove the injectors.
- 1). Disassemble the injector, as per your kit instructions. This procedure will vary greatly from engine to engine.
- 2). Remove all electronic components from the metal body and store safely. Soak the empty injector bodies in liquid carburetor cleaner for three to four hours.
- 3). Clean all components to be re-installed with spray carburetor cleaner, using a toothbrush.
- 4). Reassemble the injectors (per kit instructions) with new screens, O-rings and seals, where applicable.
- 5). Reinstall the injectors into throttle body in the reverse order of the removal procedure. Where applicable, use a dab of white lithium grease to help the injector O-rings seal against the housing.
