How to Remove the CMOS and the Password on a Dell D620

    • 1). Power down your computer. Unplug the power cord from the back of your laptop and then open it and lay the monitor flat on a working surface. Gently pry the hinge cover away from the laptop using a flat-head screwdriver. Lift the cover very carefully, from left to right.

    • 2). Remove the keyboard by unscrewing the three screws at the top of the keyboard that hold it in place. Gently rotate the keyboard while lifting it to dislodge it from the laptop. Before removing it completely, locate the keyboard connector and disconnect the cable from the laptop's motherboard.

    • 3). Locate the coin-cell battery on the laptop's motherboard. Remove the battery connector from the motherboard. Lift gently on the plastic protective cover that holds the battery in place. Slide the battery out of its location. Replace the battery after waiting at least 15 minutes. Reconnect the battery connector cable to the motherboard.

    • 4). Reconnect the keyboard cable to the laptop's motherboard. Replace the keyboard into its location and secure it with the screws you removed. Replace the hinge cover by gently sliding the left side into the location you removed it from and press down on it until it snaps back into place.

    • 5). Power your computer back up. You will be able to enter the BIOS settings without the use of a password.
