How to Replace a 2002 Dodge Durango Window Regulator

    Removing the Trim Panel

    • 1). Disconnect the car's negative battery cable, especially if the door uses power windows and locks.

    • 2). Remove the manual window handle (if there is one) by inserting a hooked tool into the hole behind the handle to disengage its clip. You can also work a towel back and forth behind the handle.

    • 3). Unscrew the door-panel retaining screws with a Philips screwdriver. There is one up near the mirror, one behind the door handle, one behind the pull handle and two at the bottom of the panel.

    • 4). Pull the door panel up and out to release it from its clips, then raise the panel up and off the door. Disconnect any wiring harness connectors.

    • 5). Peel back the plastic water shield covering the door on the inside.

    Replacing the Regulator

    • 1). Remove the two bolts near the inner edge of the door with a wrench and remove the front glass run channel. Remove the nuts securing the window glass to the regulator track and lift the glass up and out through the opening at the top.

    • 2). Disconnect the regulator's mounting bolts. There are three of them in the large outward protrusion in the door and two more in the inward protrusion in the top left corner. These bolts will likely take a Torx wrench.

    • 3). Remove the regulator from the door, unplugging the electrical connector if one is equipped.

    • 4). Install the replacement regulator into the door, connecting the electrical connector and applying the bolts.

    • 5). Slide the window glass into the door and bolt it in place within the regulator; use new glass if the old glass is cracked or damaged in any way.

    • 6). Reconnect the front-glass run channel.

    • 7). Attach the door's inner trim panel.
