Methods of Refilling Printer Cartridges
- Always refill your cartridges before they are completely empty so the chamber won't get dry. You can purchase an ink cartridge refill kit from any computer store or department store that sells computers. These kits can cost as much as $20 and will include ink and a syringe.
When you bring home your kit, make sure you follow the directions closely. You may also want to do this over a sink, as the ink might get messy in the refilling process. As most refill instructions will indicate, you will need to locate a hole at the top of your ink cartridge located near the label. This is where you will inject ink with your syringe. Push the syringe needle in toward the bottom of the cartridge and inject the ink slowly to avoid air. You do not need to seal the hole when you are finished. Let the newly refilled cartridge sit for a few hours before you place it back in your printer. After a while, put your cartridge back in your printer and run the cleaning cycle. If there are gaps in the printing, run the cycle again.
You can clean your syringe with water and let air-dry. This will be good for more than one use. - If you get ink on your hands, try washing with warm water and soap. You can use Comet if the stain persists. Just sprinkle a little on your hands and work up lather under warm water.
If you get ink on your clothes, try rubbing the stain immediately under cold water. This may take up to 20 minutes. If you normally take the piece of clothing to the dry cleaner, you may want to notify them the ink stain is comprised of a water-soluble dye with ethylene glycol added to it.
