What Does Second Generation iPod Mean?
- There are several iPod models available, most of which have had a second (and subsequent) models released. The original iPod, the iPod Nano, the iPod Shuffle and now the iPod Touch all have second-generation offerings.
- Second-generation iPods have demonstrated improvements in design and functionality over the initial generation offerings. These are mostly due to customer suggestions and fixes of glitches. Each subsequent generation or release does the same thing.
- Improvements made to the iPod Nano during the second generation: a brighter screen, gapless playback and longer battery life. Its new functions include the ability to sync contacts with Outlook 2003, recording capabilities and a larger capacity.
- iPods are categorized by model and generation release. This helps the manufacturer assist customers with issues relating to their devices. Software releases coincide with the generation offering.
- Second-generation iPods are not free of glitches and are a work in progress. Though the second-generation devices have improved upon the technology of the first generation, additional glitches exist because of the enhanced function suite. That necessitated additional improvements and subsequent generation offerings.
