How to SSH on an iPod Touch With WinSCP
- 1). Jailbreak your iPod Touch using software designed for your device's firmware version. Jailbreak software includes Greenpois0n, Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze and Spirit. Once you choose your jailbreak software, install it on your computer. Open the program and follow the on-screen instructions to jailbreak your device.
- 2). Download WinSCP to your computer from their website. Open the installation file to begin the installation program. WinSCP is downloaded to your personal computer.
- 3). Open Cydia on your jailbroken iPod Touch. Click on the "Search" icon in the bottom right corner. Type "OpenSSH" into the search box. Tap on OpenSSH from the list of programs that is returned. Tap on the "Install" button in the top right corner. OpenSSH is a free program needed to create a secure remote access between your iPod and your computer.
- 4). Open the "Settings" application on your iPod touch. Tap on the "Wi-Fi" line. Tap on the blue arrow on your Wi-Fi connection. This shows your IP address. Leave your iPod touch on this screen for the duration of your SSH transfer.
- 5). Open WinSCP on your personal computer. Type your IP address into the "Host Name" field. Type the word "root" into the "User name" box. Type the word "alpine" or the word "dottie" into the "Password" box. This username and password were set up by the WinSCP developers.
- 6). Navigate to the folder that you want to modify on your iPod touch. Now that you have set up SSH on your iPod you can modify your file system.
