- 1). Plug the tip of the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer. Typically, computers come with a few USB ports on the front of the case for easy access, so if possible use one of these as opposed to a port on the back of the case that will be more difficult to access.
- 2). Click "Start."
- 3). Click "Computer."
- 4). Open the icon in "Computer" that represents your attached USB flash drive.
- 5). View the files that are currently stored on your USB flash drive. If you see just personal files being stored on the device, it is not bootable. However, if you see a lot of .exe, .dll and .sys files, that means an operating system has been installed to the flash drive and it is therefore bootable.
