How to Replace the Transmission Line on a 2002 Dodge Neon
- 1). Park the car on a level, paved surface and wait for the engine to cool off for approximately 30 minutes. Raise the Neon with a jack and secure it on a pair of jack stands to access the underside of the engine. Engage the emergency brake before sliding underneath the car.
- 2). Look for the transmission drain pan in the center of the engine. Place a collection pan under the center of the drain pan. Remove the drain bolt (in the center of the drain pan) with a 1/2-inch socket wrench. Allow the tank to drain for 10 to 15 minutes. Replace the drain plug.
- 3). Locate the transmission line (a wide, vinyl hose) that runs from the side of the transmission to the bottom of the radiator. Use a flare nut wrench to disconnect the nuts that attach the line to both the transmission and the radiator. Twist each nut until it loosens completely then pull the hose out. Replace the hose with a new one. Use the old nuts to attach the hose to the transmission and radiator.
- 4). Lower the Dodge Neon from the jack stands with the jack and pop the hood. Locate the transmission dipstick above the drain pan. Pull out the dipstick and insert a funnel into the tube. Pour 3 quarts of ATF+4 transmission fluid into the system. Close the engine hood.
