- 1). Stop any other bandwidth-intensive applications or websites from running. File downloads, music streaming and video streaming websites like Netflix and Hulu can reduce your available bandwidth. This makes your YouTube video load more slowly and opens the door to more frequent buffering.
- 2). Lower the video resolution to minimize buffering and help your YouTube video load faster. While watching a YouTube video, click the number on the lower right corner of the video window, such as "720p" or "480p." Click the lowest available number.
- 3). Reset your router and modem if you're still experiencing speed issues and buffering while trying to watch your YouTube video. Unplug both devices for 30 seconds and then plug them back in. Load your YouTube video once more.
