The Linksys Lela Won't Start

    Check Network Adapter

    • 1). Click the "Start" menu and type "Device Manager" into the search box. Press the "Enter" key to open the Device Manager window.

    • 2). Click the arrow that is to the left of "Network Adapters."

    • 3). Verify that the "Linksys Ethernet Adapter" has a green icon. The green icon means that the adapter has been installed correctly.

    • 4). Click the "File" drop-down menu and select "Exit" to close the Device Manager.

    Check Serial Cable

    • 1). Click the "Start" button and select the option for "All Programs."

    • 2). Go to the "Accessories" program group and then select "Communications." Click the "HyperTerminal" option.

    • 3). Type a name for the connection and click the "OK" button. You should see a New Connection window appear. If you see garbage text in the window, the serial cable is working properly.

    Check the Switch

    • 1). Press the "Power" button on the Lela. You should see the "Power" indicator light and other lights begin to come on.

    • 2). Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and plug it into another outlet. Press the "Power" button to see if the device turns on.

    • 3). Unplug the Ethernet cable from the port on the back of the device. Plug the cable into another port and see if the "Link/Act" light is on. If the Link/Act light does not come on, you may have a bad Ethernet cable.
