How to Create an XP-Compatible Partition

    • 1). Turn on your computer and insert the Windows XP setup disk into the computer's CD drive.

    • 2). Press a key when prompted to enter the Windows XP setup program. If you are not prompted to press a key, restart your computer. If you are still not prompted to press a key, refer to the link in the "Resource" section and use the information contained there to set your CD as the primary boot device.

    • 3). Press "Enter" followed by "F8" to access the partition select screen. This screen displays a list of all partitions and unallocated space on your computer.

    • 4). Highlight the "unallocated space" option and press "C" to create a new partition.

    • 5). Enter in the desired size of the partition in the appropriate fields -- or just press "Enter" to set them to the maximum possible size -- then press "Enter." The setup program will form the unallocated space into a new partition.
