How to Stop Tracking Cookies With Windows Vista
- 1). Click on the "Start" button (the Windows icon on the desktop taskbar) to pull up the Start Menu.
- 2). Click on "Control Panel."
- 3). Click on "Network and Internet" and then choose "Internet Options." This is the back door to the Internet Explorer "Internet Options" screen.
- 4). Select the "Privacy" tab.
- 5). Move the dial on the sliding scale to "Block All Cookies" to block all cookies and move it to "High" to block "all cookies from websites that do not have a compact privacy policy" and cookies that "save information that can be used to contact you without your explicit consent." Click on "Apply" and then "OK" to confirm the settings. To block all cookies except session cookies, move on to Step 6.
- 6). Click on "Advanced" below the sliding scale to go to a screen that will allow you to block first-party and third-party cookies that could be tracking cookies.
- 7). Check the box beside "Override automatic cookie handling." This will abort the settings you implemented in Step 5, but the next step will allow you to block tracking cookies more exclusively.
- 8). Check the "Block" boxes beneath "First-party Cookies" and "Third-party Cookies" and check the box beside "Always allow session cookies."
- 9). Click on "OK" and exit the "Internet Options" screen. Now all the tracking cookies are blocked.
