Alloy Profiles: Vossen Wheels
History:
With 25 years in the business, Vossen is a leader in very large, very beautiful wheels. They are also a leader, but not the originator of Deep Concave wheels, a new design style that is sweeping the industry. Instead of a deep outer dish, Deep Concave wheels have a very small or no dish, while the spokes sweep inward to form a bowl shape. Deep Concave wheels were invented by Jordan Swerdloff, formerly of 360 Wheels and now founder of ADV.1, but Vossen has certainly put their own individual stamp on the concept, and their Deep Concave designs are among the best in the industry.
Philosophy:
Vossen is largely about build quality, finish and overall beauty. Their wheels are durable and perform well for their size and design, but they are relatively heavy and clearly put bling before performance – these are not track wheels for the most part. Vossen does, however, offer a 5-year workmanship warranty and a lifetime materials warranty, which always does suggest some confidence in their general quality.
Vossen does a lot of staggered fitments in sizes from 19" to 22", as best fits the kind of cars that tend to drive them, such as BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus.
Technology:
Most of Vossen's lineup are forged 3-piece wheels or monoblock designs milled from a single aluminum blank. All are designed for oversized brake setups and TPMS monitors. The major technological showpiece for Vossen is of course, the Deep Concave issue, which is generally achieved by milling a monoblock centerpiece such that it curves inward from the outer edge.
Vossen takes great pride that all of their wheels are designed for TPMS compatibility and fitments even for oversized brake caliper setups.
Inventory:
VVSCV1
One of the Deep Concave wheels, the CV1 comes in Matte Graphite, Black/Machined and Matte Silver/Machined. I really like the beveled spokes and how they catch the light.
VVSCV2
Another Deep Concave wheel, the CV2 comes in Matte Graphite, Black/Machined and Matte Silver/Machined. The 7 Y-spoke design is reminiscent of many classic wheels by BBS and others.
VVSCV3
Are you detecting a pattern here? The CV3, yet another Deep Concave wheel comes in Matte Graphite, Black/Machined and Matte Silver/Machined. The design is among the cleanest of classic 5-spoke wheels.
VVS086
The 086 is not a Deep Concave wheel, but stands out due to its asymmetric spoke design and breathtakingly deep dish. In Matte Black/Machined and Matte Silver/Machined.
VVS087
A classy double 5-spoke design, the 087 comes in Matte Black with a Gloss Black dish and a Machined pinstripe on the very outer edge, or in Matte Silver/Machined
