Recommended Display Settings for an HP L1706 Flat Screen Monitor

    • In order to ensure the best viewing experience on an LCD display, as well as optimize its life, LCD manufacturers and vendors publish recommended settings and environmental variables for users to follow. As with all LCD displays, the HP L1706 flat-screen monitor has a "native resolution" and refresh rate at which the monitor performs best. HP also provides environmental recommendations that reflect the temperature, humidity, and altitude ranges at which the L1706 properly functions.

    Resolution

    • HP recommends that the L1706's resolution be set to 1280 pixels by 1024 pixels. Pixels are the tiny dots of light and color that make up the images on the screen. The more pixels the monitor can display, the more information the computer can show on the screen. A higher resolution means the monitor is able to fit more text or images on its screen, but also that the text and images will be smaller than they normally would appear on a lower display resolution.

    Refresh Rate

    • The L1706 should ideally use the 60Hz refresh rate, which means that the monitor will refresh -- or update -- the picture on its screen 60 times per second. A higher refresh rate can be helpful for playing video or computer games, but it taxes the monitor more and may reduce the device's lifespan.

    Temperature

    • The L1706 functions in temperatures as low as 50 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 95 degrees Fahrenheit. If the monitor is powered off, it is safe to store the device at temperatures as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Higher or lower temperatures may result in decreased performance or physical damage to the device.

    Humidity

    • HP asserts that the monitor operates properly at humidity levels between 20 percent and 80 percent. If the monitor is turned off, it can tolerate humidity levels between 5 percent and 90 percent.

    Altitude

    • A non-powered HP monitor can withstand altitudes up to 40,000 feet; however, HP doesn't recommend operating the L1706 monitor at altitudes above 12,000 feet. The monitor may function at higher altitudes, but the device may not perform optimally and the lifespan of the monitor may be shortened.
