How to Add a Lexmark X8350 to the Network
- 1). Choose a computer on your network to use as your network printer host. This computer should always be left on so other computers on the network can find it and its printer. On this computer, press the "Windows" key on the keyboard and the "Pause" button at the same time to open "System Information." Look for the computer name and write it down; you'll need this information in step 4.
- 2). Connect the Lexmark X8350 printer to this computer using the provided USB cable. Click "Cancel" if the "Found new hardware" window appears.
- 3). Insert the printer software CD that came with the X8350 printer into the host computer. Click "Install" on the window that appears and then click "Continue" to begin the setup. Select "Yes, share this printer on my network" and type a name for the shared printer and write this name down as well. Wait while the software installs your printer, then click "Print Test Page" to make sure it's configured correctly. Eject the CD.
- 4). Insert the Lexmark CD into another computer connected to your network. Click "Install" on the splash screen. The software prompts you to connect your printer; select "Network" to search the network for the already-installed X8350. Select "Peer-to-peer" and enter the name of the host computer from step 1 and the name of the printer from step 3. Print a test page to make sure the computer is communicating with the X8350 across the network.
- 5). Repeat the previous step on every computer on your network to connect to the host computer and printer. You can also browse your network places -- click "Start," then "My Network Places" on Windows XP; click "Start," then "Computer" on Windows Vista and 7 -- and then "Shared Printers" on each computer to install the printer over the network. Find the X8350 and right-click its icon, then choose "Connect" or "Open" to start the "Windows Network Printer" wizard.
