How to Run System Restore From the Command Prompt on Vista

- 1). Remove all media from any media drives attached to your computer and unplug everything but your power supply.
- 2). Click the "Start" button and then click the arrow to the right of the "Lock" icon. From the drop-down list, select "Restart."
- 3). Press the "F8" key while your computer is starting up if you only have one operating system installed. If more than one operating system is installed on your computer, you will have to select your Windows Vista operating system, then press "F8" when your computer begins to restart.
- 4). Highlight "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" by using the arrow keys on the "Advanced Boot Options" screen, then press "Enter." Your computer will begin starting as normal, but when you reach your desktop, a command prompt box will appear on the screen.
- 5). Type "rstrui.exe" (without quotes) into the command prompt and press "Enter." Enter your administrator password if you are prompted. This will initiate the System Restore process.
