Windows Vista 64 Software Compatibility

    Determining Compatibility

    • Use the Microsoft Windows Vista Compatibility Center to find out if software is compatible with the 64-bit operating system. Type the name of the software into the text box, then click "Go." Click on "64-bit Windows Vista" to check if the software is compatible.

    Tip

    • When purchasing new software, look for the Vista logo -- it has the traditional floating window and says "certified for Windows Vista" -- on the packaging. This logo indicates that the software works with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista.

    Warning

    • Antivirus programs and 32-bit drivers have the hardest time adapting to the 64-bit environment, according to Microsoft. Installing the latest service pack for Windows Vista will improve support for 32-bit software.
