How to Dismantle an iPod
- 1). Unplug your iPod from any USB cords or the battery. Turn your iPod off. If your iPod is left on and/or is connected to any USB or battery cords, you will be at risk of electrical shock.
- 2). Insert a guitar pick in between the front and back seams of the iPod. Push the pick around the entire iPod to loosen the seam. At the end of the iPod, insert two picks in between the seams to pry it open. Pull apart the bottom cover from the front cover.
- 3). Work with the back of the iPod cover first. Place the iPod down onto a clean surface, and situate it so it lays horizontally--the top of the iPod facing to the right and the bottom facing to the left. Use the tiny flathead screwdriver to unscrew the six screws located at the top, bottom and one side of the iPod. Remove each screw.
- 4). Locate the connector strip on the back cover of the iPod. The connector strip is a tan piece of plastic in between the two screws on the right end of the iPod.
- 5). Use the sharp black pen to lift up the bottom end--facing the left--of the strip. Once this end is lifted, the top end--the long strip facing the right--can be pulled out.
- 6). Remove the thin, metallic piece on the left end of the iPod. This metallic strip is located between the two screws on the left end of the iPod. You can remove this by lifting the headphone jack up with the black stick. Then, simply pull the metallic strip out.
- 7). Remove the battery. Pull up gently on the battery and fold it over the iPod. It needs to be "folded" over because it is attached to the iPod with another connector strip.
- 8). Use the pen to lift up on the bottom end of the connector strip. Once this end is lifted, the top end an be pulled out and the battery can be completely removed.
- 9). Remove the display screen from the front of the iPod. Use a guitar pick or the black pen to pull up the display screen on the right side of the screen. When the display screen's pins are loosened from the holes, it can be pulled out and removed.
