How to Enable a Physical Address Extension in XP

- 1). Log into the computer as Administrator.
- 2). Click "Start," then "Run." Type "cmd" into the Run window, then press "Enter." A new Command window will open; click on it to select it.
- 3). Type the following command:
sysdm.cpl
Press "Enter." A new Properties window will come up. - 4). Click on the "Advanced" tab on the Properties window, then click "Settings" located under "Startup and Recovery." Click on "Edit" under "System Startup."
- 5). Scroll down to the line starting with "multi" and containing the "Windows XP" literal. Add "/PAE" to the end of that line. Click "File," then select "Save."
- 6). Click "File," then select "Exit" and reboot the computer. When Windows XP comes up again, PAE will be enabled.
