How to Get Better Performance With Task Manager

    • 1). Start the Task Manger. Right-click a blank area of the taskbar and select "Start Task Manager" or use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+Esc."

    • 2). Go to the "Performance" tab of the Task Manager.

    • 3). Note the current CPU usage, the CPU usage memory, and the memory. If CPU usage is at or near 100 percent, you may have a program that is not responding. Go to the "Applications" tab, click on the program that is not responding, then click "End Task" to close the application.

    • 4). Click the "Resource Monitor" button at the bottom of the "Performance" page of the Task Manager if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. The "Resource Monitor" window will open.

    • 5). Click the "CPU" heading on the title bar of the "CPU" window to sort the programs by the amount of resources they are using. Expand the "Memory" window to see what programs are currently using memory on your computer. Close any programs or applications that are unnecessarily using space and memory, to improve your system's performance.
