How to Access the Recovery Console on an HP
- 1). Restart the computer if it's already on. Otherwise, turn on the computer.
- 2). Press the "F8" key on your keyboard repeatedly while the system boots up, before the "Windows" logo appears on the monitor. A black screen will appear with several boot options available.
- 3). Scroll down and highlight "Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Press "Enter." A new screen will appear that asks "Which Windows installation would you like to log onto?"
- 4). Type in the number next to the "C:\WINDOWS" value on the screen and press "Enter." The computer will request an administrator password.
- 5). Input your computer administrator password, and press "Enter." If you've never set up an administrator password, leave the field blank and press "Enter."
- 1). Insert the Windows Installation CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
- 2). Restart the computer. Press the "Esc" button on your keyboard repeatedly while the system boots up, before the Windows logo appears on the monitor. A blue Boot Device screen will appear.
- 3). Scroll down, using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Select your CD-ROM drive from the list. Press "Enter."
- 4). Press the "Enter" key when the "Press any key to Boot from CD" appears on the screen. "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" will appear on the screen. Allow the computer to load the installation CD. A menu will appear once finished.
- 5). Press the "R" key on your keyboard.
- 6). Type in the number next to the "D:\WINDOWS" or "H:\WINDOWS" (whichever number corresponds to your CD-ROM drive) value on the screen. Press "Enter." The computer will request an administrator password.
- 7). Input your computer administrator password, and press "Enter." If you've never set up an administrator password, leave the field blank and press "Enter."
