How to Give a Tune-Up on My Yamaha Blaster
- 1). Detach the spark plug cable from the spark plug on the front of the motor. Unscrew the spark plug, using a socket wrench and a spark plug socket. Look at the electrode on the end of the spark plug for damage. If the electrode is worn or damaged, replace it with a new D8ES spark plug. Clean the spark plug with a brass brush, then screw it into place on the motor.
- 2). Check the spark plug cable's insulation for cracks or tears. If the cable is damaged, replace it with a new cable. Plug the cable onto the end of the spark plug.
- 3). Remove the seat, using the seat latch under the rear fender. Unscrew the air box cover, positioned between the seat rails, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the air filter element out of the air box. Inspect the element for tears. Replace the air filter if it is damaged in any way. Soak the air filter in solvent to remove dirt build-up, then squeeze the solvent out of the filter. Coat the filter with fresh 10W30 motor oil, then squeeze out the excess. Reinsert the filter into the air box and screw the cover into place with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 4). Start your Blaster's motor and let it idle for three to five minutes. Turn on the lights to check that they are working. Replace any burnt-out bulbs. Stop the motor.
- 5). Place an oil pan directly below the transmission oil drain plug on the bottom left side of the motor. Unscrew the drain plug with a socket wrench and a 17 mm socket, then allow the transmission oil to drain completely. Screw the drain plug into place and tighten it to 14 foot-pounds with a torque wrench. Remove the filler cap from the right side of the motor and pour up to .69 of quart of 10W30 motor oil through the filler neck. Screw the filler cap into place.
- 6). Place a jack beneath your Blaster's motor and lift the rear wheels off the ground. Spray the drive chain with a degreaser as you spin the rear wheels. Wipe off the degreaser and dirt with a shop towel. Spray the chain with a chain lubricant made specifically for off-road use. Lower your Yamaha Blaster to the ground.
