How to Open a VCD File

    • 1). Download a 30-day trial version of Virtual CD direct from the developers, H+H Software GmbH. Select the most suitable version for your needs: Virtual CD for the single user, or one of the network versions to install on a server. Install the software according to the documentation and copy CDs or DVDs from the physical CD/DVD drive to your hard drive. Play the CD image by double-clicking it.

    • 2). Open QuickTime Player on a Mac and insert a Video CD into the CD/DVD drive. On the menu bar, click "File," then "Open File." Choose "Video CD" and click the "MPEGAV" folder. Select the first file and click "Open." In the QuickTime Player window, click the "Play" button. When the first file has finished playing, open the "MPEGAV" folder again, select the second file and click the "Play" button. Continue until all the files have been played.

    • 3). Open MacVCD X on Mac OS X, or MacVCD on Mac OS 8 or 9. Insert a Video CD into the drive. When it starts playing automatically, adjust the screen size. The CD will eject automatically when playback has finished.

    • 4). Open Windows Media Player on a Windows computer. Insert a Video CD into the CD/DVD drive. Select the video you want to play from the menu bar, and click the "Play" button if it doesn't start playing automatically. Older versions of Windows Media Player may not recognize the VCD format; in this case select and open the files individually.
