How to Set Up a Microphone with a Computer
- 1). Plug the microphone into the computer. If you have a USB microphone, plug the USB cable into the USB port of the computer. If you have a microphone with a 1/8" plug, then insert the cable into the jack in your computer that is labeled with a picture of a microphone.
- 2). Wait for the device to register. It usually takes only a few seconds for the computer to recognize the new hardware device. On some systems, a bubble will pop up telling you that you have installed new hardware.
- 3). Test the microphone. If it's a plug-and-play device, you can begin to use the microphone immediately after plugging it in. Open an audio-recording program on your computer and record yourself to see if the installation was successful.
- 1). Insert the CD-ROM into the computer if your microphone requires that you install software.
- 2). Follow the instructions on the window that pops up to lead you through the installation process. Follow this onscreen menu and the software will be installed.
- 3). Test the microphone. Sometimes the installation software will have you test the microphone as part of the installation process. Other times you have to test it yourself by using audio-recording software.
