How to Make Your Own Wallpapers for Your Computer
- 1). Determine your screen resolution, which will establish the size you will make your wallpaper. Right-click a blank area on the desktop. Select "Properties" in Windows XP and go to the "Settings" tab. Look for the screen resolution size near the bottom. Right-click the desktop in Vista or Windows 7 and select "Personalize." Click "Display Settings" in the left pane. Check the numbers in the "Resolution" box. You may wish to write down these numbers.
- 2). Find and right-click the image you want to make into wallpaper. Select "Open With." Choose the photo editing program you wish to use to make your wallpaper. Click "Open."
- 3). Change the image size to match the screen resolution size. In MS Paint, click "Resize" on the toolbar. Select "Pixels," check the "Maintain Ratio" check box and enter the height and width. In MS Picture Manager, go to the "Picture Menu" and select "Resize." Select "Custom Width and Height" and enter the resolution size. In Photoshop, go to the "Image" menu, select "Image Size" and enter the height and width. These programs will change the size to match as close as possible while maintaining the aspect ratio so the image is not distorted.
- 4). Save the resized image as a "jpeg" file. Save it in a location that is easy to find, such as your desktop or "My Documents" folder.
- 5). Right-click a blank area on the desktop. Select "Properties" in Windows XP and go to the "Desktop" tab. Click "Browse" and select the image you saved. Right-click the desktop in Vista or 7 and select "Personalization." Select "Desktop Background," click "Browse" and select the image you saved.
